Matthews House & Young Adult Housing Program

The Matthews House Youth & Young Adult Housing Program works with young adults with lived experience in the foster system, the juvenile justice system, and chronic homelessness. One of our primary goals for 2025 is building a more robust relationship with community landlords and property managers to end youth homelessness. Young people, especially those who are systems-involved, face a myriad of barriers to access housing. We hope to bridge the gap between young renters and landlords, supporting our young people in being good and reliable tenants, and educating landlords on our programming, especially on how we can assist landlords who want to support this particularly vulnerable population.

ABOUT BETHY SHAW

Bethy Shaw grew up in Northern Colorado, and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor's of Science in Human Services. Bethy has worked for The Matthews House for the past seven years, moving through the organization from an intern with after-school programming to the Youth & Young Adult Housing Manager, overseeing staff who work with about 60 young adults. Bethy and the Housing Team at The Matthews House specialize in working with young adults (ages 14-26) who have lived experience in the foster system, the juvenile justice system, and chronic homelessness. Bethy's team supports these young people in building independent living skills - from support in obtaining a high school diploma to learning how to live within a budget to finding long-term housing solutions for those young people who are unhoused.
